Graphic design is art with a purpose through visual communication. The qualification involves creatively solving a problem to achieve certain objectives with the use of symbols, images, space and colour. Concepts are expressed to an audience using graphic tools. Students are prepared for careers in brand communication, covering the disciplines of art direction for advertising, and digital graphic design, through the relevant theory and practical subjects. Emphasis is placed on developing visual ideas and producing them as finished digital or printed artworks. Students learn the best practice process from conception to design to print-ready files. The National Certificate in Graphic Design aims to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to be employed in the highly competitive fields of graphic design.
